Happy New Year! I love ringing in the New Year and I love the hope we all have to lead a healthier life come January. That is why I decided it would be awesome month to host giveaways that help you live a healthier life.

What do I win this week?

We are kicking off the New Year, New You giveaways with one of my favorite kitchen gadgets. It’s no secret that I love tofu. Now that I have brought Manatee over to the soy side, I couldn’t be happier. We eat tofu at least once a week and usually more. It’s so good, so healthy, and so cheap. You can buy a container of tofu (usually 14 to 16 oz) for between 2 and 3 dollars. A lean protein for that price? Sign me up!

When I was a poor graduate student, I tried all sorts of things to press the tofu. The process varied: sometimes I used my theatre textbooks, sometimes canned beans, sometimes other pots, but it ALWAYS resulted in a big mess.

For you tofu-newbies: Pressing the tofu forces the moisture out and enables the tofu to take in more yummy marinade or crisp up when you fry it. Since my two favorite ways to make tofu are marinating and frying it, you can see why I was adamant to press it (even with the mess) and I am sure you can understand why I am now super excited about this simple kitchen gadget:

 A TOFU PRESS

It’s so simple but so effective. I wish I had invented it. Seriously. I really wish I had thought to invent this, but that’s a topic for another blog and another day. For the time being, let’s explain how it works so you can fully understand why this is a must-have for a healthy kitchen.

How does the tofu press work?

You put the block of tofu in the box….

Put the top on, screw in the spring, and let it sit in your fridge for 4-12 hours. Then you get a nice compact block of tofu, perfect for marinating or frying.

Yumm!

So, one lucky winner will receive this TofuXpress. Exciting!
