I was going to whip up some funny mommy confessional quips for my post today and then last night a good friend of mine sent an email of a Call to Action. She talked about how her and her husband have decided to join the movement for gun safety and how scared they are for their children. And I was so impressed because my husband and I are so scared we have trouble talking about it. The school shootings that keep happening are haunting us and it feels like they are zeroing in closer and closer as our girls get older.

I grew up in a hunting family but I do not feel like that bears an resemblance to the gun rights that people are talking about. A rifle is not a weapon that can kill multiple people fast and furious. I just don’t understand why these weapons are out there. You want to arm teachers? Are you freaking kidding me? My mind does not even grasp these concepts.

I don’t talk about it much publicly because I don’t even know how. I freeze up. I’m terrified. But I’m not as afraid to act because I know what I want to happen and I know I can work towards making a difference. My good friend suggested this organization, Everytown, and I checked it out this morning. We are donating money and more importantly, I signed up to volunteer. I hope you will get involved OR find an organization that speaks to you. Our kids deserve our protection and this is one way we can do that for them. And if you don’t have kids of your own, please protect mine. And everyone else’s. And teachers. And people going to concerts or going to the mall or going to church or walking down the street. And yourself. Because it’s not just children getting killed by guns. Every day 96 Americans are killed by gun violence. That’s terrifying.
