Happy Healthy Blogger Thursday

Happy Thursday folks! Today is the day I introduce you to another healthy blogger. This week I am pleased to introduce Sarah from Walking on my Own 2 Feet. Sarah and I met through Foodie Penpals. Foodie penpals is a blogging group that fixes you up with a foodie penpal who sends you a care package of foodie goodies. Sarah sent me an awesome Fiesta package last month and I am very happy to host her this week for our Healthy Blogger Thursday.

Without further adieu,

heeeerrrrreeee’s Sarah!

First of all I want to give a HUGE thanks to Kimberly for allowing me to write up a guest post! I always love expanding my horizons and be able to reach a bigger networking group. Hopefully you all check out my blog: Walking on my Own 2 Feet.

We are all working, busy, yet POWERFUL women! We can successfully manage our professional and personal lives. But without fail, at one time or another, we struggle to manage our HEALTHY lifestyle. Yep, even smart girls struggle with fitness goals.

Why, you may ask? Seven factors* seem to be our constant, dark, looming clouds.

I’ll Start My Diet Tomorrow

Procrastination is a common and awful habit that pops into our lives every so often. When it comes to your health, there is no time like TODAY to start!

Flip the Switch

The motivation it takes to plan meals or workouts for a whole week or to even head to the gym MUST be there or else they will never get done. I struggle with this myself and I think it attributes to laziness and the fact that I was never brought up to plan ahead. I was always so busy being involved with a million extra-curricular activities that I was a “fly by the seat of my pants” kid. Many of us go hard for a couple of days but our fires fizzle our a couple of days later. They key is to find what drives you. A goal such as a planned vacation, photo shoot, wedding, high school reunion, etc. are all goals that can help assist with our motivation. FIND it and DRIVE toward it!

I Quit!

Perseverance is very tough, especially when you want fast results. When the numbers on the scale or the inches don’t just melt off, it is so easy to throw in the towel and quit. It took lots of “playing” to get where your body is today so it is going to take a lot of “paying” to get it back on track! Make small goals so when you achieve them, it that much more motivation to move onto the next one!

Scaredy Cat

The fear of failure is a huge detriment to success. We are more likely to lose motivation, give into our impulses (we will get to those in a minute!), and quit. You must change your innermost thoughts from fearing failure to CRAVING success. You are more likely to strive towards goals and it becomes EXCITING rather than frightening.

Step Away From the Cookie Jar!…

Impulse control! Blah! Everyone does this- you are not alone! It is something that takes effort and planning to achieve. You will want to snack on cookies or turn into McDonald’s – deny the impulse! It will go away! Be prepared for these situations and be ready to conquer them!

…But I Want That Cookie!

Instant gratification feels amazing when you are busy in the middle of the week, striving for the upcoming weekend. Choose to delay gratification; it doesn’t come automatically. Be ready to make the choice BEFORE It comes to you!

No Big Deal, I’ll Get the Weight Off

Having too much self-confidence can be just as bad as not having enough. When you’re too confident, it can lead to procrastination and giving into those instant gratifications. Take a mental inventory and assess your confidence level. Make sure it’s high enough to crave success but no so high that you put off striving for that success!

As SMART girls, let’s challenge each other to make necessary changes within ourselves in order to succeed!  Let us succeed for our HEALTH…on our own two feet…

*These seven factors are thought of as a theory created by Robert Sternberg, professor of psychology at Yale University.
