This is in the top three in terms of our favorite kitchen gadgets. We used this almost every night this past summer when we were getting our CSA. In the winter, we make a lot of frozen veggies but we still use our steamer once a week for a special fresh veggie treat.

So what makes this so great?

Yes, we have your typical veggie steamer and yes, we could also steam veggies in the pan. But then, it takes 10-15 minutes to get the water boiling, then steam the veggies, and then you have clean up. Pans take up a lot of space if you dare to put them in the dishwasher and many people don’t like their pots and pans in the dishwasher.

At heart, Manatee and I are very lazy people who hate cleaning up the kitchen. Okay, so I HATE cleaning up and Manatee is a neat freak but he still loves shortcuts and hates when we have multiple pans to clean.

Enter the micro-steamer.

Chop up your veggies, throw them in micro-steamer, add 1-2 inches of water, and microwave for 3-4 minutes.

Yes, your veggies will really be done THAT fast.

Then you can throw this baby on the top shelf of your dishwasher and you are all done with clean-up.
