I realize that it’s been awhile since I have posted, so I thought I would do a quick round of updates for you…..

If it ain’t broke…

My motto generally is, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That is why we still have the original appliances in our house. Manatee has tried several times to coax me into new ones, but I resisted. I think I still have that graduate school mentality of using things way beyond their intended lives.

For the last year or so, our oven has been temperamental. If it gets too hot, usually on the broil setting, it goes into lock down mode, literally locks itself, and then starts self-cleaning. This usually happen when I am trying to cook something. Remember Buffalo Wild Wing Tofu?

Last week, it kicked into lock down mode at 350 degrees. I was still resisting new ovens. The conversation went like this…

Badger Girl: I don’t think we need a new oven. They just do that, right?

Manatee: Has anyone else ever told you about their oven locking down?

Badger Girl: …….

Manatee: It’s time.

So, we finally bit the bullet and our new stuff comes on Friday. In the mean time, we are avoiding using the oven, so lots of slow cooker meals. Did you know you can bake potatoes in the slow cooker?  Tried it last night and it was so good!

I guess, I should also mention that at the same time our oven broke, my computer broke, my phone wasn’t working quite right, and today we had to have service done on our washing machine. Oh, and we have mice. Yeah, it’s been that kind of week. Thank goodness for great service people and salespeople. We got some great deals at our local appliance store, Brothers Main.

Badger Girl Garden 2014

garden May

My garden will be back in 2014 and tonight I am attending a class on container gardening! I have spent the last three years, learning what you can’t grow in containers (brussel sprouts, broccoli, any kind of squash, cauliflower, carrots), tonight I learn what you can grow!  I am hoping this will translate into a more successful garden and the Jung Garden Center employees not hiding from me when I walk in the store.

Bread Baking

I have started baking more bread and am looking for good storage containers for artisan bread. I have been wrapping it in wax paper and Manatee can’t stand how cluttered it makes the kitchen look. Any ideas from the bread makers among you?

While I have been writing, Baby G has been busy dismantling my office. I hope all of you are well and would love to hear from you.

Anyone else planning their garden? Or any other warm weather dreams?
