It finally caught up with me. I was driving home from lunch with a friend and I could I feel it trickle down from the top of my head. You know in Harry Potter when he talks about that thing that feels like they just cracked an egg on his head? That’s what it felt like. The flu being cracked over my head and trickling down my body.

I still resisted. I called Manatee just to tell him that I wasn’t sick and then had a sneezing attack. He didn’t seem convinced and hung up.

I then went to the store and bought ingredients for the little dinner party we were going to throw tonight. As I shivered in the grocery line, I thought, I’m not sick. I’m fine. Then I blew my nose.

I got home and started the bread for the dinner party ignoring my sore throat and flushed cheeks. Not sick, I kept telling myself.

It wasn’t until I crossed the room to grab a kleenex and realized that my nose was now dripping on the floor, that I had to give in to my body. My nose wasn’t running, it was sprinting and I was really sick.

Lucky I have a nurse.

We have Maggie until Saturday and I am so glad. She is empathetic, affectionate, and loves to cuddle. Even when I sound like Darth Vader and am surrounded by snotty Kleenexes, she is there with an understanding ear. Manatee tries really hard but when you are sick no one can love you like a dog can love you: unconditionally and with enthusiasm. Now if I could just teach her to make me chicken soup….

This is your last day to enter to win a Pampered Chef Large Micro Cooker. And don’t worry, I won’t be sending my germ infested steamer, you will get a brand new one untouched by my hands!

No recipe today (mostly because I don’t trust myself to give accurate directions). I would love to hear from you today.
