Hello! This is my second week of WIAW. I have been kind of excited about posting again. People were so friendly last week and I find it really interesting to see what people eat. I remember when I started my first ‘grown-up’ job, living on my own, I was at a loss of what to buy at the store. I would ask people what they ate and I don’t think people ever answered honestly. Nor do I think they really liked me asking, but that’s a whole other story…

People don’t always like to admit those super simple go-to meals or snacks even though they eat them every day or every other day. It seems very private for some reason.

What we eat is so tied with how we grew up. Yes, my family rocked the canned veggies but my dad also loves fresh produce and was always trying out new foods and ways of eating. I remember the year we got the juicer and every weekend he would create a new, lukewarm concoction that I would choke down. Or when he got me to try eel at a japanese restaurant. Or when he went through his garlic face and we ate raw garlic on EVERYTHING and yes, I don’t think I was terribly popular at school that year.

Anyhoo, here is what I ate yesterday and I hope you check out some of the other bloggers as well. I would also LOVE to hear about some of your go-to snacks or meals. Don’t be shy!

Breakfast

Strawberry Chocolate Shakeology

Yes I am OBSESSED with this stuff. It tastes like dessert, gives me a ton of energy, keeps me full forever, and after taking it for a little over a week, my nails are a lot stronger. Did I mention I also lost weight?

Here is my Shakeology website where you can find more information about this wonder drink. Also feel free to contact me with questions. Expect to see it on my WIAW post every week. 🙂

Snack 1

I wanted to eat a late lunch because I was helping with a cooking class at night, so around noon I snacked on some of Manatee’s homemade beef jerky. I think we overcooked it this time. Have you ever heard of the term meat gum? At least, it had a good flavor. 🙂

Mid-Day Meal

Ribolita Soup (a la Lombardino’s recipe testing), an Ezekiel Sprouted Grain english muffin with Earth Balance spread, and a spinach/arugula salad with homemade salad dressing and sun-dried tomatoes and peppers. Yum!

Let’s take a closer look at that soup….

Smoked bacon, white beans, tomatoes, zucchini, carrots, celery, and onions.

It was amazing.

Dessert

Strawberries.

I need something sweet after a meal. I am trying to train myself to eat fruit instead of cookies. I know it can be done: when I worked at Camp Mariah, no one was allowed to have any processed sweets so we had fruit. By mid-summer, I had cravings for fruit after a meal. That’s the goal here.

Snack 2

Soy yogurt and graham crackers.

My second obsession: soy yogurt. For those who know me and know that I have never liked yogurt (ahem…April!), you are probably surprised. I hate regular yogurt. I have always wanted to like it but I just couldn’t choke it down. Granted I did end up being lactose intolerant so that could have been a reason, but the soy yogurt has a totally different taste and texture. To me, it’s just sweet, creamy, fruity goodness.

I am not totally sure the graham crackers are clean (gasp!) but we had some leftover from a party and I have to admit, I really like them with the yogurt.

Notes:

Today was kind of a weird day. My mid-day meal happened around 3:00 because I was assisting with a cooking class at night. I did kind of like having a bigger meal mid-afternoon with lots of snacks.

It was my first time on my own helping with a cooking class. I almost impaled a poor woman with dirty forks but her lightning quick reflexes kicked them away just before they plunged into her exposed ankle. At the cooking class, I did get a few quick bites of chicken tortilla soup and green chile stew, but between my silverware throwing tricks, prepping all the ingredients, and washing more dishes than I thought humanly possible, I didn’t get a chance to snap a picture.

Now your turn: What are some of your go-to snacks or meals?
