Happy International Hot and Spicy Food Day!

Before I reveal this week’s giveaway, I want to give you a little background on Badger Girl and spicy food…

My father sweats when he eats ketchup.

He told me that he just couldn’t eat spicy food.

Growing up, I thought that because my mouth burned when I ate spicy food, I was therefore destined to be my father and therefore couldn’t eat spicy food. I mean, what teenage daughter wants to be out to dinner and sweating?

In my mid-twenties, I was at a friend’s in Chicago. We walked in to find her husband and one of our friends digging into a pile of chicken wings.

Sweating.

Complaining about their mouths being on fire.

And they loved it.

It was a revelation.

“You mean, your mouth burns and you sweat and you like it?”

They nodded as they reached for their next wing.

“It’s awesome,” they told me.

Whoa.

“You mean just because my mouth burns doesn’t mean I can’t eat spice?”

They looked at me dumbfounded.

Double whoa.

I flirted with spice until I met Manatee.

Manatee, who ignores all warnings and picks the hottest hot sauce on the menu.

Manatee, who eats hot peppers, sometimes right off the plant.

Manatee who introduced me to Sriracha.

I used to flirt with spice and now I am in a legally binding committed relationship with him.

And I couldn’t be happier.

For this week’s giveaway, I am giving away two bottles of Sriracha.

You might be wondering: what does Sriracha have to do with a healthy lifestyle?

  1. When you eat spicy foods, your metabolism goes up.
  2. When you eat spicy foods, it forces you to slow down (because your mouth is burning).
  3. When you eat spicy foods, you are more likely to eat less food because you are eating slower….and your mouth is burning.

Here are a few ways we use Sriracha in the Badger Girl/Manatee household

  • Put a little hot sauce on your eggs. To tame down the spice, pair with some fresh avocado.
  • Add a little to your salsa, BBQ sauce, ketchup, mayo, really any condiment, anywhere, anytime.
  • Add some to spice up your curry.
  • Make a quick stir fry sauce with 2 parts soy sauce, 1 part hoisin, and 1 part Sirracha.
  • Make some BBQ Buffalo wing hummus.
  • Throw some into your guac for your next football party.
  • Spirt some on some fresh mushrooms for a pre-dinner nibble.

How do I enter?

In the comments section below, tell me how you like to use Sriracha.
