I have to admit I was a little discouraged the last few weeks. I have no desire to eat another turnip for the rest of the summer and I was tired of the lack of color of our shares- green and white, green and white, green and white.

Finally we are entering into the summer produce I love: strawberries and zucchini. Game on, CSA, game on.

Broccoli
Zucchini
Strawberries
Garlic Scapes
Pearl Onions
Snap Peas
Spring Mix
Lettuce Head
Swiss Chard
Kohlrabi

Broccoli- I love the sweetness of the CSA broccoli. We will be cutting up the broccoli this week to eat as a snack with hummus and guacamole. Check back next week for my famously easy guacamole recipe.

Zucchini-I am super excited that we got zucchini this week! Dan Almquist shared with me a recipe for zucchini cream cheese pasta. He assured me that it was super fast and you only need three ingredients: cream cheese, zucchini and pasta (duh, right?). I will be featuring this recipe early next week with my interview with him about his background in cooking and Madison’s 43 North restaurant.

Strawberries– After a fat and happy year of marriage, I recently joined back up with Weight Watchers. In celebration of summer and my new diet, I am trying to satisfy my sweet tooth with berries. I put together a nice blend of strawberries, blueberries and raspberries that I will keep in the fridge when I need something sweet.

Garlic Scapes- I want to experiment more with garlic scapes this week and try subbing them into different dishes that call for garlic. I may try using some in some pasta sauce and sauteed with zucchini and mushrooms with venison steak.

Pearl Onions and Snap Peas: I am excited to try this recipe that combines snap peas, pearl onions and mint. This is my first year growing mint and I haven’t cooked much with it. Look for this recipe next week on the blog.

Spring Mix– I have to admit I was kind of happy that Manatee was out of town tonight. This meant I got to eat Spring Mix to my heart’s delight and did not have to share. I did save him some but I have two more meals before he gets back. Mouhaha.

Lettuce Head- Mmmmm…more salads.

Swiss Chard– Still don’t like it but as I was talking with someone at my pick up site, she suggested a quiche with bacon. Will I do a quiche with bacon? No, eggs make me cringe unless it’s an egg-white omelette. Instead, I will try mixing it with romaine for a BLT salad. Everything is better with (turkey) bacon, right?

Kohlrabi- We love it raw but I think I am going try cutting it up and sauteing it with olive oil and maybe a cut up garlic scape. I will let you know how it goes!
